How to Succeed

The simplest and easiest thing to do — and the thing that I believe most Americans, most people everywhere, do — is conform to the mediocre evil that characterizes everyday life — that always has characterized everyday life — in this economy.  (America has an economy rather than a society.  One leaving America gives up only an economic advantage; this is the least of what one gives up when leaving a society.)  The second step is to rationalize this conformity with the dull and the shabby in the name of progress; and through the application of meaningless banalities (e.g., “Life is not fair,” etc), all directed beside the point and repeated ad nauseum, the assorted “wisdom” of “conservatism” and penny ante “Darwinism.”  The sum total of these turds of thought reveals the truly dark roots of America, for they constitute the deepest thinking of the sociopath.  As D. H. Lawrence says in Studies in Classic American Literature, “The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer.”
